Neuromuscular Dentistry: The answer for many difficult issues in dentistry.

There are many difficult issues in dentistry that are a concern for both dentist and patients and Neuromuscular Dentistry is an excellent tool than can improve the quality of patients lives.

Reconstructive dentistry often occurs in mouths ravaged by dental disease, dysfunction and neglect.  Correcting these problems can be difficult if there is no way to determine the correct bite.  Neuromuscular dentistry employs biomedical measuring techniques to aid the doctor in finding physiological sound positioning of the jaws and teeth.

Chronic headaches, migraines and other issues are usually caused by or affected by the Trigeminal nervous system.  When physiology or homeostasis is disrupted it can result in many types of chronic pain.  This pain is primarily carried by the Fifth (V) cranial nerve or Trigeminal Nerve.  The trigeminal nerve accounts for over 50% of all input to the brain after amplification by the Reticular Activating System.

The Trigeminal nerve is usually referred to as "The Dentist's Nerve" because it innervates the teeth, the jaw bones, the gums, the periodontal ligaments, the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, the jaw muscles, the jaw joints.  It also innervates the Tensor Tympani or the tensor of the ear drum and tensor veli palatini, the muscle that opens and closes the eustacian tubes.

This and the close anatomic position of the TMJoint to the ear explains many of the ENT symptoms seen with TMJ disorders (TMD)

Headaches, migraines, cluster headaches, chronic daily headaches and sinus headaches are all mediated by the trigeminal nerve as well due to innervation of the sinuses and the control of blood flow to the anterior 2/3 of the meninges of the brain.

Botox works by changing trigeminal nerve input by appying small doses of deadly botulinum toxin.

Neuromuscular dentistry works by creating a healthy and physiologicly stable homeostasis of the trigeminally innervated structures.  This healthy homeostasis often results in miracle like cures.
